In the heart of Siena, the Nobile Contrada del Nicchio celebrates the 10th edition of the Premio Antica Arte dei Vasai through different events dedicated to contemporary ceramics. On May 19th 2018, Ana Maria Asan has the pleasure to show her first short film What You See Is Not What You See, But What You Are and to give a preview of the Sonores project to the audience attending the lectures held at the Contrada Museum (Luca Bochicchio, Enrico Stropparo, Nicola Boccini et Mirco Denicolò are also scheduled).
Already premiered at the 5th International Symposium of Ceramics at the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre, in Latvia, the film is at the same time autobiographical and experimental. It revolves around few fundamental questions that the artist raises and asks herself about ceramics today and art in general.
Ana Maria Asan is also present in the international exhibition of contemporary ceramics, Tra-vasi ovvero Vasi Comunicanti - contenitore e contenuto nella ceramica contemporanea, displaying 140 interpretations of this year’s theme – communicating vases – proposed by its curator, professor Carlo Pizzichini.
Il moi laboratorio: contenitori di poesia is a small size installation showing next to each other objects in porcelain and glass, becoming in turn containers and contents of the artist’s universe. The references to her favorite themes are obvious: nature, memory, the ceramics and sound pair, the visible sending back to the imaginary, the material tending, by its fragility, to dematerialize (May 18 to May 26, in the exhibition hall of the Parco dell’Abadia Nuova)
