Several previous exhibitions in Latvia and art contributions brought especially to the prestigious Mark Rothko Art Centre and the Fortress of Daugavpils introduced Ana Maria Asan to the beauty and mystery of the Baltic countries.

The artist defines herself as a poet and an explorer looking for establishing lively connections between what she profoundly is, people that she could encounter and places presenting a sort of thinking or remembering potential.

As a selected artist-in-residence at the ARS Factory Tallinn, she visits Estonia for the first time, in summer 2024, with the intention of creating a body of work based on the dialogue between “the soul” of the capital Tallinn and the artist’s personal mythology. So, she conceives Inner Echoes, Exploring The City As A Woman as an interdisciplinary research and a sensitive creative project putting together media as clay, sound and image in all kind.

Born in Romania at the end of the communist regime and based in Brussels since her art studies, Ana Maria Asan’s name is entrancingly linked to the SONORES project she created in a key moment of her life (2010-2011), that associates in various ways ceramics and sound, with the vision and enthusiasm that only pioneers could have.

Her artworks have been selected and, sometimes, awarded in many major international contemporary ceramics art events through Europe and Asia, like the ICMEA Gold FuLe Prize, in Fuping, China, but the artist chose to be present also in alternative places allowing people less accustomed to museums and galleries to experience art without inhibition or emphasis.

These last years, she felt the profound call to be more and more connected to nature through ephemeral land art projects, especially in France and Belgium.

Many of the actual events and slip-ups testifying of a worrying worldwide change of paradigm catch the artist’s attention, as a thinker and a person, but she still lives her life in a deep spiritual way that gathers creation, amazement and hope bringing a deep recognition to people who contributed to shape her, the one who she is today.
